After graduating with a B.S. in Financial Planning from San Diego State University, Charles moved to Los Angeles, passed the General Securities Representative Exam (GSRE), obtained a Series 7 license and then worked for Paine Webber.

In 2003, he moved to the Big Island, which was also the same time major landowners announced they would be selling 70,000 acres that had formerly been used as sugarcane plantation land and had not been available for purchase for over a hundred years. The Ensey family obtained this land located on the Hamakua Coast outside of Hilo and also in the district of Kau. Charles and his family began farming on the Hamakua Coast outside of Hilo. There, he formed a company named Hawaiian Sunshine Farms Inc., which is now a farm that ranks as one of the top five producing macadamia nut orchards in Hawaii. It is also one the largest exporters of exotic fruits on the island. The land in Kau continues to be utilized for ranching as development continues.

Through the process of developing these a large acreage tracts into viable businesses, Charles has gained a wealth of experience in dealing with a variety of property types ranging from farms to ranches, residential and commercial properties and vacation rentals. Additionally, for several years he has been working with a team of professionals to clear titles to a broken chain of previous sugar cane land. As slow and tedious as this work can be, the upside has great potential if the insurable title can be gained.

Charles knows from experience that no real estate transaction is exactly the same but there are commonalities—pinpoint issues that usually need attention. It was natural for him to take the next step to obtain his real estate license and begin helping others in their pursuit of obtaining or selling property on the Big Island. Charles’s background in finance has also assisted him in understanding the details and complexities of real estate transactions. His counsel—based on his experiences and on-going in-depth market research—are valuable in helping both buyers and sellers make sound decisions.
